swkBorn and raised in Southern California, I graduated from University of California, Berkeley, with a BA in English. I went on to take on a variety of communications jobs. I was in charge of public relations for a law firm's large class action suit. With public relations firms, I developed press releases, wrote brochures, and managed events, developed project budgets. I worked for The American Cancer Society, taking charge of all the fund raising materials for the State of California, including direct mail letters and brochures, and case statements. For about 15 years I worked as a freelancer in marketing communications, developing direct mail materials, annual reports, video scripts, brochures and more.

Motherhood threw me for a loop in the way of a son with disabilities. While my freelancing time was restricted, I took up nonprofit work, helping to found and grow Dedication to Special Education, an all volunteer parent group committed to improving special education in Marin County. In addition, together with my husband, Bruce King, we founded the Ecological Building Network, a nonprofit committed to developing and distributing information on green building. We also founded The Green Building Press, a small publishing company. For all these endeavors, I have developed my own skills to meet the challenges of all aspects of management.

I have created fund raising campaigns, put on a number of international conferences, developed grant proposals, managed the business side of the Ecological Building Network, put on special events and had a blast doing it all.

I started creating web sites as a matter of need and found I really enjoyed the work. I love challenges and puzzles. The work keeps me engaged and learning all the time. I enjoy the process of helping clients identify their communications goals and finding the right fit for design and functionality.

I have been married to Bruce King since 1990, and our two children, Tyler and Lucy, keep us on our toes. We live in the beautiful Lucas Valley area of San Rafael, just north of the Golden Gate.
